All of a sudden, some people in the village fell ill on Tuesday and the number gradually increased. Majority of them are suffering from diarrhea, fever and headache, said Officer at the district public health office, Mahesh Shrestha. Among the sick, the condition of Kumari Sinjali is reported to be critical.
Three of the sick are undergoing treatment at Gulmi Hospital in Tamghas, one at the Lumbini medical college in Palpa and six at the temporary health camp set up by the health office. The temporary health camp was set up at the request of the municipality, considering the large number of people affected by the polluted water, Shrestha said.
Meanwhile, Mayor Somnath Sapkota said that a probe would be carried out to find the source of the contamination that led to the spread of diarrhea in the village. The situation is now under control after the medical team from the district treated those affected through a temporary health camp.
The village is facing water scarcity since long and the locals are forced to use the polluted water from the local Nur river, said local resident Hari Chantel. RSS
