Kathmandu — Plan International Nepal on Thursday said that it completed earthquake response and recovery programme implemented at quake affected communities of six districts that aimed to support reconstruction work after devastating April 2015 quake,
“Plan International Nepal has provided support to affected families and communities of Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Makwanpur, Sindhuli, Kathmandu and Lalitpur on education, health, shelter, water, sanitation and hygiene facilities,” statement issued by Plan reads.
“During this period 23 safe and inclusive schools were constructed in the affected areas with the support of Plan International Nepal. The schools now have earthquake resilient building and structures and able to provide education in safe and inclusive environment,” statement said.
Under its recovery programme, about 200 drinking water schemes have been completed and handed over to the community and its beneficiaries. Additionally, Around 21,000 households received support to build latrines. A health post with a birthing center in Dolakha was also constructed to provide health service to the affected communities.
As a global child rights organization, Plan International has also provided support to set up 97 child and women friendly spaces and 5 anti-trafficking booths were operated to reduce the risk related to child protection. Through the booths, about 500 people were intercepted.
In the beginning of response, 56,416 families received shelter support materials for temporary and transitional shelters. At the same time more than 1400 masons including women and carpenters were trained and equipped with build back better skills.
