Drinking water crisis hits Kundi folks

Bajura : The Kundikot Basic School based in Budhiganga municipality-1 in the district is facing shortage of water.

It is facing difficulty in managing water supply. Prior to this, the school was dependent on the water fetched from the Hande Khola (stream) with the use of solar power. The supply was arranged by the Alternative Energy Promotion Center, Deepayal branch since over the past one decade.

Now the project has been terminated, forcing students and school staffs to walk up for half an hour to reach the nearby water sources. According to school principal Krishna Kumari Singh, this has hampered teaching and learning activities at school. There is no water resource near the school which is located on a dry hill. No drinking water project was implemented targeting the school, said school management committee chair Birbhan Pari.

Kundi is the mostly deprived settlement in terms of drinking water facility. The people of Upper Kundi had met political parties and leaders who approached them with the promise of addressing their need for water during the latest elections have so far taken no initiation to fulfill the promise.

Upper Kundi is home to 256 households and they bear the brunt of shortage of drinking water. RSS
