Kathmandu : The Finance Committee of the Federal Parliament has directed the Ministry of Drinking Water to accomplish the Melamchi Drinking Water Project in the stipulated time that the project costs would not increase.
A meeting of the committee held at Singha Durbar today instructed the ministry to expedite the works to complete the much-awaited Melamchi drinking water project.
Committee Chairperson Krishna Dahal said that the committee has intended to complete the project works on time without increasing the costs.
The committee enquired the line ministry and office-bearers of the project when there were media reports that the Melamchi project contractor was about to run away leaving the project in limbo.
On the occasion, former finance minister duo, Surendra Pandey and Gyanendra Bahadur Karki asked the reasons behind Melamchi project dillydally and also drew attention of the line ministry and the project to complete the project works in the stated time.
Responding to the queries of the lawmakers, Minister for Drinking Water Beena Magar said her ministry was working to cautiously manage the project works by understanding its sensitivities.
She also informed that the ministry was holding final round dialogue with the contractor to complete the project without increasing the expenses.
It is stated that around 93 percent of the project works have already completed. RSS
