Rupandehi : Endangered Sarus Crane was declared the official bird of Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha.
Sarus Crane, associated with the life of Lord Buddha, was declared the bird of the city at a bird festival programme that began in Lumbini on Monday.
Mayor of Lumbini Cultural Municipality Manmohan Chaudhary made the announcement in the event organized by the Lumbini Development Trust with the theme of ‘Sarus Crane Conservation for Peace’.
On the occasion, George Archibald of US-based International Crane Foundation said that Lumbini was the appropriate site for the crane conservation.
Likewise, Vice Chairman of Trust Metteye Shakyaputta said that cranes, the symbol of peace and love, are found in significant number in Lumbini and stressed the need for collaborative efforts of all for the protection of its habitat.
On the occasion, province member Phakaruddhin Khan said that since the ecology was linked to the human livelihood, its sustainable development and conservation was needed. RSS
