Parbat : After extensive damage to crops and fruits here, Mahashila rural municipality in the district has tamed more than 200 monkeys in the recent three months.
The second village assembly had allocated Rs 3 million to control monkeys. The monkeys were caught from different six wards of the rural municipality.
Spokesperson at rural municipality, Jiban Bikram Uchchai informed that 220 monkeys were brought under control so far making a coordinated plan so that crops would be safe.
The monkeys caught with the joint efforts of 20 persons including locals, police persons and Indian nationals have been kept safely in an enclosure.
Spokesperson Uchchhai further said although the rural municipality and the Bardiya National Park held talk to take the simian to the Park, it was delayed because of the agreements to be made with various government agencies including the Ministry of Forest.”The crops and fruits are safe now, it has been difficult to arrange daily foods to monkey and treatment to the sick ones,” he added.
Rural municipality chief informed that the locals are voluntarily providing fruits, corn, rice, vegetables, potato to feed the simians. More than 50 kgs of food grains is required every day.
However, catching monkeys with modern trap is continuous.
A local from Mahashila-7, Saraswati Adhikari, said the monkeys were controlled after they ate and damaged the crops as corn, millet, rice, fruits and vegetables. RSS
