Kathmandu : The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has demanded that the federal government should construct the landfill site for disposing of the federal capital’s waste.
Saying it was not the responsibility of the KMC to construct landfill site, Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya, argued that it was only the duty of local level to take the garbage to landfill site after the construction of landfill site by the federal government.
Shakya said, “The federal government should construct the landfill site as the KMC lacks means and resources for the same.”
The garbage collected from 18 local levels of Kathmandu Valley is being managed at Sisdole of Nuwakot district for the past 13 years.
Mayor Shakya said, “Talks are underway with federal government regarding construction of landfill site. The problem will be resolved soon.” Although 1,700 ropanis of land, around two kilometers away from Sisdole, has been acquisitioned for the construction of landfill site, construction works have not been moved ahead.
Around 200 metric tonnes of garbage produced in Kathmandu Valley daily is being managed at Sisdole. RSS
