‘Varied impacts of climate change more intimidating’

Kathmandu : A workshop on empowering underprivileged women and youth groups to adapt the climate change hazards in Nepal held in the capital.

Inaugurating the workshop, National Planning Commission member, Dr Krishna Prasad Oli emphasized the need to minimize adverse impacts of climate change in the lives of people.

“The varied impacts of climate change are more intimidating in the Himalayan countries like Nepal”, he said, adding that anthropogenic factors are getting more responsible for many catastrophic circumstances.

He also lauded efforts from civil society organisations in providing support to the people to seek alternative livelihoods by building their resilience and increase adaptive capacity.

Also highlighting the government efforts, he pledged to reflect issue of climate change in upcoming 15th periodic plan and long term vision of Nepal as well.

Climate experts Dr Netra Prasad Timsina and Basna Sapkota presented papers on climate change and its Impact in Nepal and gender perspectives of climate change separately.

A mapping report and a documentary film on the issue was presented during the workshop organized by Europe-based organization BASUG and SOLVE with the support of German International Development Cooperation GIZ and CIM, shared SOLVE Executive Director Rajendra Pradhan. RSS
