Karnali Province to be developed green region

Surkhet : Chief Minister of Karnali Province Mahendra Bahadur Shahi has said that the Karnali Province was planning to develop its geography into the green province.

The province government has allocated Rs 240 million for the development of state-of-the-art nurseries to materialize the dream, Chief Minister Shahi said on Sunday while inaugurating the first convention of Federation of Community Forestry Users Nepal (FECOFUN), Karnali Province.

Saying that forest was inevitable for human life, Shahi recalled the inseparable relations between the forest and human life.

He also announced to give emphasis on farming of herbs to develop the jungle of the most expensive woods in Karnali and appealed to the FECOFUN to closely work with the province government. He shared that the province government would give Rs 100 per plant and give the plants’ ownership to the locals.

On the occasion, Internal Affairs and Law Minister of the Province Naresh Bhandari said that human existence was also at risk due to extinction of animals’ habitats.

Similarly, Minister for Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment Nandasingh Budha praised the role of community forest users to conserve the forests in the Karnali Province. In Karnali, 34.98 per cent of total land is covered with the forest area while there are 3,447 community forestry users committees in the entire Karnali Province. RSS
