Kathmandu : President of Myanmar U Win Myint has underlined the need of formulating the rules of procedure of the BIMSTEC institutional mechanisms, developing BIMSTEC Charter and rationalization of BIMSTEC existing cooperation areas.
Addressing the 4th BIMSTEC Summit undergoing here Thursday, President Myint expressed Myanmar’s strong commitment to strengthen BIMSTEC cooperation towards peaceful, prosperous and sustainable Bay of Bengal region.
“Since the third BIMSTEC Summit held in Nay Pyi Taw in 2014, BIMSTEC made considerable progress especially the establishment of BIMSTEC Permanent Secretariat in Dhaka,” he said, informing that Myanmar as a Lead country of Agriculture sector would host first BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture in Myanmar in 2019.
He also mentioned that MoU for the Establishment of the BIMSTEC Grid Interconnection which will be signed during this summit would serve a framework for trade in electricity across the region.
Moreover, the Myanmar President also underscored the importance of the BIMSTEC national security chiefs meeting which provides platform for strategic dialogue and practical cooperation in the BIMSTEC counter terrorism sector. RSS
