Myanmar’s Bago region inundated (see in pictures)

Residents negotiate a flooded road after rampaging waters from Swar Chaung dam submerged villages in Bago region, central Myanmar. A large-scale rescue effort marches on into a second day to reach thousands of people stranded in their homes in Central Myanmar after a dam swollen by monsoon rain left the region inundated.

Swar Chaung dam’s spillway structure, which regulates the release of water from the levee, broke due to heavy seasonal rainfall in Bago region on August 29, inundating about 100 villages and blocking the country’s biggest highway, a government official said.
