Kathmandu – The Tribhuvan University Central Department of Meteorology and the Department of Meteorology took a joint initiative to carry radiosonde into open air from Wednesday.
At a discussion programme organized at TU today, Registrar Dilliram Uprety shared that preparations are being made for releasing battery-filled weather balloons in the open air to measure various atmospheric parameters and transmit them through radio signals to a ground receiver.
“Now we make weather forecasts considering Lucknow as the centre. So we are not being able to make accurate forecasts. With this balloon initiative, we would be able to obtain true weather information”, he further said.
The daily estimated cost for carrying radiosonde into the air is USD 200.
