Kathmandu. Political leaders and Foreign Affairs experts have suggested the Prime Minister to effectively implement the past bilateral agreements reached between Nepal and China during his first premiership.
The speakers, at a talk programme on ‘Nepal- China Relations: Evolved Dynamics (in the context of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s upcoming visit to China) organized by Madan Bhandari Foundation, stated that the government should firmly forward proposals for developmental projects in the country without any delay and hesitation as it has two-thirds majority.
Speaking at the programme, Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) leader and former DPM Bhim Rawal opined for effectively implementing the bilateral agreements held with China adding that Nepal stands in a sensitive geographical situation.
He further suggested solving legal hurdles to connect Nepal through Chinese and Indian rail networks.
Similarly, Rastriya Prajatantra Party chair and former DPM Kamal Thapa opined for forwarding bilateral relations by keeping the national interest in the centre. He also said that it was a great opportunity for PM Oli to implement the Sino-Nepal agreements inked in his first premiership when he was the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Presenting a paper on Nepal-China Trade Agreements, constitutional expert Dr Bipin Adhikari focused on implementation of the past agreements including rail networks, petroleum products supplies, energy development among others.
Economist Kalyan Roka also presented a paper on China’s Belt and Road Initiative: Way Forward from Nepalese Perspective, and said that there might be legal hurdles while participating in BRI project.
Former Nepalese Ambassador to China Dr Mahesh Maskey said that the Sino-Nepal relations were mufti faceted and therefore it should be forwarded on the basis of mutual confidence.
Lawmaker Chakka Bahadur Lama, border expert Buddhi Narayan Shrestha, former ambassador Hiranya Lal Shrestha, former lawmaker Lal Babu Yadav, journalist Dhruba Adhikari, also focused on implementing past agreements inked with China. Prime Minister Oli is visiting the north neighbour very soon.
