Man makes fortune from mushroom

A decade ago, Yadav Dangal of Kavre left for Kathmandu with a dream. His dream was to make a lot of money by growing mushroom.

Dangal, who was 25-year-old then, has now turned 35. In this period, he not only grew older but also realized his dream. This decade long period has given him both fame and fortune. He has also become a model for unemployed youth. Dangal has set an example that it possible to make enough money here in Nepal if one is skilled and has motivation.

His habit of working relentlessly to fulfill his dreams led him to success. He has built a house in Imadol of Lalitpur with the income he made from mushroom farming.

From a man looking for a job only ten years ago, Dangal has now turned the tables reaching a position where is creating and giving employment to others. “As the saying goes: work hard without expecting the fruits, I worked hard. And I have been reaping the fruits too. I am also giving employment unemployed youth,” he said.

He has four mushroom farms in Khokana of Lalitpur. The mushrooms grown in his farms are supplied to Kathmandu, and Pokhara, among other places.

He says it is possible to earn between Rs 10,00,000 to 12,00,000 in one season, if the mushroom production is good. Last year he had earned Rs 22,00,000 by investing Rs 12,00,000 in one farm. This year he has invested Rs 600,000 in one farm. From there, he has already sold mushroom worth Rs 700,000. “I’ve so far made a profit of Rs 100,000 from a Nakhhu-based farm. I am still selling. Let’s see how much I can earn,” he said.
