Kathmandu, 27 March 2018 – The Ministry of Finance (MoF) in partnership with United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has launched country’s first “Climate Change Financing Framework (CCFF) and Green Climate Fund (GCF) Handbook.’
According to a press statement issued by UNDP, ‘Nepal consistently ranks among the most climate-vulnerable countries in the world. In recent years the country has experienced an increase in flash floods, glacial outbursts, heat waves and cold waves, and extreme events of rainfall, landslides and droughts.
“To address these issues, the CCFF lays out a road map for improvements required to strengthen the public financing system as well as the roles of key ministries for improved coordination at national and sub-national planning and budgeting climate responses.” the statement reads.
Whereas, the GCF Handbook provides systematic steps to strengthen national capacities to effectively and efficiently plan for access, manage, deploy and monitor climate financing in particular through GCF.
The Ministry of Finance has been nominated as National Designated Authority (NDA) to GCF in 2015 and engaging relevant stakeholders in Nepal to align national climate change priorities to mobilize resources on low carbon climate resilient interventions.
