Kathmandu– Red sandalwood smugglers are turning to alternate method of trafficking.Police on Wednesday arrested two persons in connection with the smuggling red sandalwood via Kathmandu- New Delhi tourist bus. Police arrested driver Jhilkeman Rumba and helper Sujan Pun but owner of bus and people involved in smuggling are still absconding.
“We have seized 11 kg of red sandalwood which were hidden in the bus which arrived in Kathmandu from New Delhi,” said Bishwo Pokhrel, an official at Metropolitan Police Range, Teku. The preliminary statement provided by driver has revealed that this is not the first time and red sandalwood has been transported from India.
The driver, however, refused to provide the name of person engaged in smuggling in the red sandalwood. Police has suspected that there is a big network of people involved in smuggling sandalwood.
