Kathmandu, Feb 26: More than 70 percent beneficiaries in 14 most affected districts from the April 2015 earthquake have now come under the reconstruction process in a little more than two years of its establishment, according to National Reconstruction Authority (NRA).
As per the data provided today by NRA, it has signed grant agreements with 610,500 beneficiaries out of 667,662 beneficiaries who were eligible to receive the government grant in the 14 most affected districts.Out of these, 100,236 houses have now been reconstructed while 332,321 houses are under construction, it claimed.
NRA, which has focused its present efforts on reconstruction of private housing, began its work on December 27 in 2015 with five years mandate, it said in a press release issued today.
NRA estimates that it would fulfil its target of reconstructing 60 percent of private houses before the coming monsoon if the present speed of reconstruction continues unabated.

Chief Executive Officer of NRA Yubaraj Bhusal said the number of beneficiaries engaging in reconstruction process increased significantly as NRA has set the deadline for reconstruction, mobilized technicians at the local level, provided training to masons and eased the availability of construction material and supply of timber.
“We have further encouraged the local people’s representatives and beneficiaries through interactions,” the release quoted CEO Bhusal as saying. “Thus, we are confident that we will reach our target of completing 60 percent of private houses before the onset of monsoon.”
The number of reconstructed houses and those presently under construction could be higher, as the central information system of NRA is yet to receive the available data, according to Yam Lal Bhoosal, Spokesperson of NRA.
Out of 100,043 beneficiaries in less affected districts, grant agreement has been signed with 90,850 beneficiaries and NRA is updating the information system with latest data, says Manohar Ghimire, head of NRA’s information management and communication section.
