According to him, the VMF has decided to take concrete step regarding the dissolution of the Authority as its demanded for dissolving the Authority in April itself had not been implemented by the government. The meeting has decided that the metropolitan cities and the municipalities in the Valley will boycott the Authority’s all meetings, discussions and programmes. Similarly, the meeting has decided to organize an international conference of mayors in Kathmandu in October 2021 to augment to the Visit Nepal Year 2020.
The plan is to have the participation of the mayors from the neighbouring countries and the renowned cities as well as the mayors of cities which have sister city relations with the municipalities in Kathmandu Valley. VMF secretary Shrestha said on the occasion that the Forum will prepare an integrated plan for the management of waste in the Valley and take concrete initiatives to that end maintaining inter-municipality coordination as well establish coordination with the federal and the province governments for resolving the problems related to development and construction, and service delivery.
The meeting decided that all the municipalities in the Valley will pursue the concept of ‘cycle lane’ brought by the Lalitpur Metropolitan City keeping it in priority. Forum chairperson and Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya said the meeting discussed on six various topics. Nine mayors and 12 deputy mayors attended the meeting. Shakya said the meeting also decided to take initiation for resolution of problems seen in development and construction and public service delivery owing to the lack of coordination by the thematic offices with the local levels by requesting the Head of State and the Head of the Government.
