Chitwan – A male rhino has died in the Chitwan National Park. It was found dead in the Rapti buffer zone community forest in Meghauli area under the park.
CNP chief conservation officer Bed Kumar Dhakal said a rhino, remaining in the list of endangered animal, of around 35-40 years of age was found lifeless on August 29.
It was estimated to be a natural death due to aging. On average, the life expectancy of rhino is from 35-40 years. Last fiscal year, four rhinos died due to ageing. This is the first case of the natural death of a rhino so far this year.
However, the park reported no case of rhino-poaching since some time. Last fiscal year, the Park and national forests areas lost 43 rhinos due to age issue. RSS
