The strong storm that lashed Kailali and Kanchanpur districts Thursday evening was due to the combined effect of the low pressure system that developed in the west, the moisture-laden wind that came from the Bay of Bengal and the local wind, the Meteorological Forecasting Division stated. Senior meteorologist at the Division, Barun Poudel, said the system that developed in Kailali and Kanchanpur on Thursday evening gradually moved eastward to Kathmandu this morning triggering precipitation with gusty wind.
He said the low pressure system was losing strength as it slowly moves eastwards via the central region, therefore, the sunny day. However, it is said the pre-monsoon activity will repeat towards the evening with the possibility of light to moderate rain accompanied by gusty wind. According to meteorologists, the pre-monsoon phenomenon becomes weak only after the monsoon becomes active.
Poudel said this year the monsoon will make its entry with a week’s delay. Monsoon starts when the moisture-laden wind has its impact up to the upper layer of the atmosphere. There are chances the monsoon will be delayed as this system has not developed so far. Monsoon usually starts in Nepal from June 10.
It had entered the country on June 8 last year. Forecast for three days The weather will be generally cloudy in the eastern and central parts of the country tonight with chances of rain along with gusty wind and thunder in some places while it would be partly cloudy in the western parts. On Saturday, the weather will be generally cloudy in the eastern and central parts with partly to generally cloudy conditions in the western part.
There is possibility of light rain with thunder in one or two places of the western hilly region. The weather will be generally cloudy in the eastern and central parts while remaining partly to generally cloudy in the western part with chances of rain accompanied by thunder in some places of western hilly region and one or two places of the central and eastern region.
As per the latest weather data provided by the Division, the minimum temperature of Kathmandu today was 17.0 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature was 28.8 degrees Celsius. Dipayal recorded the highest temperature at 41.4 degrees Celsius. RSS
