A shortage of drinking water surfaced in the district in the aftermath of the heavy hailstorm last Saturday which caused damages to four drinking water projects has largely affected the normal life at Tribeni rural municipality-1 in Rukum West.
Now, 258 households and 600 students are bearing the brunt of the water shortage. The heavy rain damaged the Samadhunga Drinking Water Project, Dibya Chhachhu Secondary School’s Bhattachhare Drinking Water Project, Balle Drinking Water Project and Kharkha Drinking Water Project, said ward member Laxman Oli.
The rain washed away project water tanks and pipelines. People of three villages and pupils of Dibya Chhachhu Secondary School have been largely affected as a result of discontinuation of water supply. The situation is sure to go worse in absence of timely intervention. Though, there are a few sources of water in the villages, they are too less to meet the demand.
The water sources get flooded so much that there is difficulty of fetching water despite staying hours in a queue. The villagers have no idea how to manage water for themselves and their livestock as well. The flood in the local Balle River swept away two local traditional water mills as well, putting the house of ward chair Mohan Kishor Oli at risk. RSS
