Kathmandu : Minister for Water Supply Bina Magar has taken initiative to get back the Italian company CMC to complete the remaining task of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project.
Minister Magar is effortful to complete the remaining limited task of the much-hyped Melamchi project though the Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee announced the discontinuity of the contract last month.
Minister Magar deployed a team to Singapore for talks to regain the same old contactor company, as allowing a new company for developing the tasks would incur additional time and cost.
Deputy Executive Director of the Committee Bhoj Bikram Thapa, Ministry’s under secretary Gunaraj Shrestha and other officials had visited Singapore last week for the talks and held talks with the representatives of the CMC to rejoin the construction works of Melamchi.
According to Shrestha, the Nepali team assured the CMC officials about the favourable environment to work by coming to Kathmandu again adding that the talks were positive.
He said that CMC expects flexibility on the part of Nepal government arguing that the cost in the development work of the Melamchi has upped.
Likewise, Shrestha said that the talks team has submitted its report to both Minister and Secretary over the issue.
The contractor company had quit the entire works of the project two months ago while the Committee had written to the contractor to own the bank guarantee amount worth Rs 2.31 billion. RSS
