Kathmandu— Finally, government has sent a letter seeking to scrap the contract with Melamchi Water Supply Project’s Italian contractor.
Earlier, the company has assured government that it would return to works after the New Year. However, there was not any communication by the Italian contractors about resuming the works.
The government has decided to scrap the contract with the Melamchi Water Supply Project’s Italian builder in a move which will push the national pride project into further uncertainty.
According to Melamchi Water Supply Development Project, the letter was sent after Italian company was undecided about its works for the long time. One month ago, the company has abandoned the tasks of tunnel construction.
The contract with the company is expiring on February 10. After terminating the contract, Nepal government is preparing to award Nepal Army to complete the remaining tasks of Melamchi drinking water project. The recent move has pushed the project’s fate towards further uncertainty.
