Dead Sea’s shape as a symbolic message to reduce plastic use

Kathmandu : Shape of the Dead Sea was created using plastic bags giving a symbolic message of the urgent need to reduce plastic use.

The effort is made to create a world record.

The Dead Sea’s shape was created at the joint initiative of the Ministry of Forest and Environment and the Stem Foundation. As many as 87,232 plastic bags were used to make the shape at the programe attended by the representatives from various organizations and schools.

On the occasion, Minister for Urban Development, Mohammad Istiyak Ray, said the government was serious on making efforts to reduce the use of plastic by mobilizing the youths and assisting them in the campaign.

Technology Chief at Nepal Academy of Science and Technology, Dr Rabindra Dhakal, said the use of plastic was minimized after the technology was developed to make diesel out of plastic. He urged all for reuse of the plastic.

Stem Foundation’s Chairman Sarjan BCshared that the programme was organized in Nepal in order to draw global attention on the negative effects of plastics. RSS
