Salahesh garden of Lahan listed among 100 new tourist destinations

Lahan : The Salahesh Fulbari (garden) in Siraha has been identified as a new tourist destination. The decision of the government to include the site where unique flower called Salahesh blooms once a year –1st Baisakh or the Nepali New Year–has brought happiness among the people of Siraha.

The garden, which lies in Padariya of Lahan municipality in Siraha, five kilometers west to the district major trade center Lahan, is now on the list of 100 new tourist destinations unveiled by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation recently.

On the day of Nepali New Year, a large number of people assembly here to observe the strange and amazing flower. A huge mela (fair) called ‘Salahesh Fulbari Mela’ also takes place here the same day.

The government is now expediting its exploration of new tourist destinations as it sets a target of bringing about two million tourists to home by 2020 AD.

Another feature of the tourist site is the Salahesh Fulbari Temple which presents accounts of historic king Salahesh and his beloved, and is visited by a large score of devotees each year from home and as far as India.

The garden spreading across around 10 bigha of land offers a peculiar view of amazing flower Salahesh drawing a large number of people from Saptari, Udaypur, Sindhuli, Dhanusha, Sarlani and Indian neigbouring villages as well.

Local leader Magain Kamait said the Siraha folks are very happy with the government decision to recognise Salahesh garden as a tourist destination and they hoped that it would help to bring the development of the entire district. RSS
