Kathmandu : Minister for Energy, Hydropower and Irrigation, Barshaman Pun, has said the government has given top priority to the energy sector in order to ensure double digit economic growth.
Addressing the concluding session of the 4th International Conference on Renewable Energy Technology for Rural and Urban Development in the capital city on Wednesday, Minister Pun argued that as the energy was the basic requirement to infrastructure building, industrialization and trade, government has accorded high importance to the energy in its policy, periodic plan and budget.
The Minister underscored the need of cooperation and collaboration among the government, donor agencies and private sectors to expand the modern energy technology. Sustainable energy development and promotion would help realize the national campaign of ‘happy Nepali-prosperous Nepal’.
Similarly, National Planning Commission member Dr Krishna Prasad Oli said the development and expansion of renewable energy technology could be a help to reduce trade loss caused by the import of fuel. The renewable energy was given top priority globally also to reduce the climate change effects.
The conference announced a 30-point declaration with various decisions on energy and sustainable development, energy security, climate change and carbon trade, green economy, gender mainstreaming and energy, electricity agreement, investment in clean energy technology among others.
The conference organized jointly by the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre and TU’s Institute of Engineering had set the theme of ‘renewable energy forward for economic and sustainable development’. It was a significant platform where the experts from various countries shared their knowledge on the renewable energy for addressing the issues related to climate change mitigation and adaptation and working towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-7) and Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL).
