Kathmandu- Bilateral talks between Nepal and India to finalize the remaining issues related to additional air routes is all set to begin this week.
A team of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) will fly to New Delhi on Thursday to hold talks with Indian side on the technical issues of air routes. The talks will be focused on two air routes: Nepalgunj and Mahendra Nagar. In June this year, India agreed to extend additional air routes to Nepal after the series of negotiations between two sides in the 10 years.
Though there has been some agreement, the technical details of air routes have not been finalized and there has been a delay to sort out the issues.
Both sides, in June, had agreed that international aircraft flying at high altitude from four international airports– Gautam Buddha, Pokhara and Nijgadh airports — would be provided entry points from Nepalgunj and Mahendranagar from the western side. This meeting will delve on the detailed technical evaluation. Though Nepal is demanding to providing additional air route, India was not ready for the same With formation of new government, India has adopted flexibility to provide additional air routes.
