NRA waiting authority to unseal proposal on Dharahara rebuilding

Kathmandu : It has been eighth times that the date to unseal financial proposal for the Dharahara reconstruction has been postponed, thereby delaying the much-hyped rebuilding of the historic pillar.

The reconstruction of the historic pillar, set up by Bhimsen Thapa, was said to begin last mid July by the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA).

Six proposals were submitted after the tender was called for it. Based on the technical evaluation of the proposal, six companies were short listed by the NRA.

The NRA had issued notice on July 4 stating that the financial proposal of the companies would be opened on Asar 10. Since then, the date to open the proposal was fixed for seventh times. The date fixed for today, the eighth time scheduled to unseal the proposal was again postponed till September 2.

Information to this was shared by Joint Secretary at NRA, Rajuman Manandhar.

He further said the unsealing of the proposal was postponed after a complaint was filed at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Minister that one among the five companies had suspicious document. Investigation to this was conducted and the report submitted to the OPMCM.

As the OMPCM has not authorized for opening the proposal, the NRA was waiting for the same.

According to Joint Secretary Manandhar, the companies to submit proposal are- JEK Lama JV, CR 5 CEC/Swachcchanda JV, Kumar/CFEC JV, JIETC-Raman JV and CICO-Kalika-Rasuwa JV.

The Dharahara, also known as Bhimsen pillar, was crumbled by the Gorkha Earthquake of 2015.

The NRA has however planned to erect 22-story new dharahara while keeping the damaged dharahara as it is. The damaged dharahara had 9 floors. RSS
