Quest to spot dwarf planet begins from Province no 1

Kathmandu : The Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO) in collaboration of the Itahari International College is going to launch Dwarf Planet Research Campaign-2018 in the province no 1.

The campaign, aimed at establishing a scientific community within the country and providing a common platform for all astronomy enthusiasts, will be launched from September 3-30.

NASO’s President Suresh Bhattarai appealed the students from grade 9 to 12 in Province No 1 to apply for this research campaign. The selected ones will be divided into a total of 30 groups, each group having five students and a teacher.

They will get a two-day orientation class on September 3-5 at the Itahari International College to begin with.

Each group will be provided with the different pictures of the planetary rings and galaxies.
NASO has been continuing its mission of searching dwarf planets since six years. This year’s search campaign is to kick off from Province No 1.

The campaign is believed to foster scientific thinking in society. Those groups spotting the dwarf planets in between the Mars and Jupiter could coin names for the spotted planets.

The participating school should compulsorily have computer with internet facilities which would advance the research bid, the campaigners said. RSS
