KATHMANDU: If crops are not productive, the farmers will be compensated. If the seeds do not appear in corn cobs and paddy among others, the farmers will be compensated, according to the upcoming Food Rights Act 2075BS.
The draft of the Bill, which has been tabled at the parliament for discussion, provisions that seed recommendation authorities including government, company and firm does not grow crops; they should compensate the farmers for it.
However, the amount of compensation has not been mentioned in the bill. According to the Agriculture Ministry, the standards of compensation will be provisioned in the regulations. They will not be compensated if the methods recommended by those bodies are not applied in farming.
Protection of food rights
Similarly, the Bill has proposed the protection, recognition and issuance under food rights. The access of quality and nutrient foods, sufficiency without prejudice, liberation from hunger and risk of life due to lack of food will be ensured to a person or family sustainably and supported them.
The local bodies have to distribute identity cards for targeted groups, mentioning updated details. The three tiers of governments will provide food support at free of cost.
The Act being implemented has given priority to local foods. The foods produced in the local levels by applying traditional methods will be prioritized while managing food and nuitrition, according to the Bill.
