Everest summiteer Basnet honoured

Sundarharaicha, Morang : The Sundarharaicha Municipality in Morang Saturday honoured journalist Rosha Basnet who along with other three female journalists successfully scaled the Mount Everest in May this year. She is associated with the National News Agency (RSS) and is the permanent resident of Biratchowk of Sundarharaicha-10.

On the occasion, mayor Shiba Prasad Dhakal honoured the 29-year-old journalist, terming her achievement as a matter of pride and prestige for the entire province 1. Applauding Basnet for her great audacity to set foot on the world’s highest peak and for being able to make her dream true, he said the municipality was proud of her.

She as a member of the First Women Journalist Everest Expedition Team on May 23 reached the 8,848-meter-high summit of the Everest, under the banner of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) collectively. ‘Unified Voice for Gender Equality’ was the theme of the expedition.

Basent personally had the official map of the Sundarharaicha Municipality and the national flag that had been gifted to her before the expedition by the local government to the atop the world’s highest mountain.

Following the honour, Basnet expressed her happiness over the warm felicitation she received in her hometown in recognition of her achievement. She took the time to share her willingness to work for the promotion of local tourism, for the causes of empowerment of women and youth awareness with the mass. She gifted a rock she had brought from the Everest to the local government.

“Passion, determination, hard work, faith and self- confidence are among those factors that drive us to our goal, but we have to dare to dream,” she asserted.

Local-level representatives, business community, media persons and representatives from civil society and other various organisations were present on the occasion. RSS
