Beni : A heavy landslide that occurred at Rum Bilbang in Malika rural municipality-2 caused big damages to a human settlement here.
The District Disaster Management Committee is set to provide relief to the landslide survivors.
After the incident of landslide on Tuesday, a meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee decided to provide with relief amounting to Rs 20,000 each to all landslide survivors.
The landslide rolling down behind the human settlement had completely damaged the houses of Nar Bahadur Pun, Kha Prasad Pun, Cheejman Pun, Nut Bahadur Pun, Shyam Lal Pun and Bhuwan Pun.
Chief District Officer Leeladhar Adhikari informed that the landslide has put over a dozen houses in Bilbang at high risk so the vulnerable population was asked to stay safe.
He further informed that the Disaster Management Committee’s meeting also urged the Gandaki Province government to provide support for the construction of a building of Dhaulagiri Primary School at Annapurna rural municipality-4, Kopchepani which was recently blown away by the swollen Kaligandaki River.
The meeting also made request to the province government for the protection of over a dozen houses reeling under high risks of flood and landslide and also directed the Beni-Jomsom road construction project to adopt settlement safety measures.
Urge to aid to survivors
An arrangement has been made to keep the family members of 10 households which were buried and heavily damaged by the landslide in Blbang.
The arrangement was made after rural municipality chairperson Shree Prasad Roka and representatives of security agency made on-site inspection of the disaster-hit areas.
“The landslide has made things worse. However, no human casualties occurred as people were already out of their houses ahead of the landslide. We will manage food and shelter to the homeless people without any delay”, said chairperson Roka.
He also urged support from all sides to the people who were rendered homeless due to heavy landslide.
On Wednesday, a team headed by Assistant Sub Inspector of Nepal Police, Jeewan Acharya had reached the site and collected details of losses. RSS
