‘European nations willing to invest in Nepal’s energy, infrastructure sectors’

Kathmandu : Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradip Kumar Gyawali has said some European nations were willing to invest in Nepal’s energy and infrastructure development.

Talking to media persons upon his arrival after weeklong visit to Portugal, Luxemburg and Belgium, Minister Gyawali said the European nations were more interested in Nepal’s energy, infrastructure and agriculture sectors. He expressed his confidence of bringing in more foreign direct investment (FDI) from Europe.

Gyawali shared that he urged the European leaders to allow entry of Nepali goods in the European markets as Europe was the vital partner for Nepal’s development and trade.
The Foreign Affairs Minister shared that the European leaders put forth their concerns with him about Nepal government’s economic policy, investment environment and inclusion in constitution.

“Nepal is willing to benefit much from the economies of India and China. I found their concerns about Nepal’s steps to move ahead by maintaining geopolitical balance and economic partnership,” Gyawali stated.

On the occasion, Gyawali said that he urged the European leaders to immediately resolve the issues that have hindered Nepal’s air services to Europe.

Gyawali said during his meeting with the External Affairs Minister of Portugal, an agreement was signed to form a consultative mechanism to further strengthen the bilateral relations and identify the areas of cooperation.

Minister Gyawali also held talks with his counterparts from Belgium and Luxembourg. Besides investment promotion and trade expansion, intensive discussions were held on forging consensus for peace in favor of the developing nations in the international forums, Gyawali told the journalists.

Belgium often backs the cause of developing and landlocked countries as a trustworthy partner while Luxemburg has very high per capita income despite being a small nation in its territory.

During his trip to Europe, Minister Gyawali also directed the Nepali ambassadors in European countries to work to translate the government’s target of economic development and prosperity and uplift Nepal’s image.

During his Europe visit, Minister Gyawali also attended the programme organized by European Institute for Asian Strategies and shared Nepal’s position on political achievements and peace as well as making the twins more sustainable. RSS
