Minister Pun urges Japan to invest in Nepal’s energy sector

Kathmandu –The government has urged the Japanese government to provide support in Nepal’s energy sector.
Minister for Energy, Irrigation and Water Resources, Barshaman Pun, urged this during the meeting with Japanese Ambassador to Nepal, Masamichi Saigo, held at Energy Ministry at Singha Durbar on Monday.

 On the occasion, Minister Pun said that the government is moving ahead with a target to produce 1,500 MW electricity within next 10 years.

He said, “We have been moving forward with very ambitious objective in the energy and hydropower sectors. We have expected loan, assistance and investment from Japan.”

The Energy Minister urged the Ambassador Saigo to create environment conducive for private sector of Japan for the investment in Nepal’s hydropower sector.

Saying Japan is development partner country of Nepal, Minister Pun expressed the belief that there would be continuous support of Japan in Nepal’s development in days ahead.

Similarly, Japanese Ambassador Saigo expressed the view that the relation between Nepal and Japan would be further strengthened in days ahead.

Saying Japan has been providing support in Nepal’s education, health and infrastructure sectors, he said Japan is willing to work in the energy and hydropower sectors of Nepal in days ahead.

The Energy Minister Pun urged the Japanese Ambassador to help in construction of Jajarkot-based Nalgad hydropower project. RSS
