Kathmandu— With continuous rainfall in most parts of the country, water level is rising in all major rivers. The heavy rainfall is forecasted mainly in the eastern and western parts of the country which is likely to trigger floods in some parts.
According to Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DOHM), water level is swelling in the major rivers including Kamala, Bagmati, Narayani, West Rapti, Babai, Karnali and Mahakali on Monday. The DOHM has already issued an alert to communities who are living close to those rivers.
Due to the floods triggered by rainfall, some highways are already obstructed. The Butwal-Tansen section of Siddhartha Highway has remained obstructed due to a landslide that occurred at Siddhababa temple area on the road section.
Landslides have obstructed vehicular movement in three roads connecting Nuwakot to Kathmandu. At least three people including an infant, died in landslide that occurred at Rutigadi Rural Municipaltiy-5 in Rolpa district. Vehicular movement along the Siddhartha Highway has been obstructed following landslide triggered by rainfall.
Two people were swept by floods in Jethinala River at Baijyanath Rural Municipality of Banke district. Tula Budha(65), of Baijyanath Rural Municipality-5, and Lok Bahadur Sunar(35), were swept while crossing the river
