Kathmandu– Ministry of Forest and Environment has endorsed Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report of Nigad International Airport, paving a way for the construction of airport.
With approval of report authorities can now start the constructions of much-awaited airport. Maheshwor Dhakal, Chief of Environment Division at Ministry, confirmed the endorsement of report. The airport which will spread over 8,000 hectares lies inside the dense forest area.
Environmentalist have already expressed the concerns saying that there will be negative impact on environment as around half-million big trees will have to cut down to construct airport.
Nearly 90 percent of the project area is covered by Sal trees. Government has already entrusted Nepal Army to cut down the trees.
