Kathmandu- Red Panda was the most frequently smuggled hide in Kathmandu in the Nepali year 2074 BS ( April 14, 2017 to April 13, 2018).
Thirty-five people faced legal action for their involvement in the smuggling of 15 pieces of hide of this endangered wild animal, shows the data of the District Forest Office, Kathmandu.
Leopard skin was the second most smuggled hide. In a period of one year, 24 people were punished for the crime, states DFO forest officer Rambabu Poudyal.
Illegal trading of Pangolin scale is also the choice of those wishing to accumulate black money. The data shows that nine people were punished for the smuggling of pangolin scales weighing 177 kilograms.
Thirty-three cases relating to the smugglings of body parts of tiger, big cats, musk deer, blue bull, deer, bear and eagle are also registered in the office during this period. Greed and ignorance have been found to be factors in these crimes. Most of the smuggled parts of wild animals from Nepal are traded to China, Malaysia, Japan, Europe and the United States of America via Kathmandu.
