Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has decided to monitor the community schools to measure the situation of environment and sanitation.
According to KMC’s environmental department chief Hari Kunwar, the metropolitan has started preparation for the monitoring of all 94 community schools after the school education was brought under the ambit of local level. He said the department has started monitoring the condition of sanitation, drinking water, and waste management in the community schools.
“The importance of greenery and plants has grown with the increase in urbanization. The school premises should be kept green,” said Kunwar. “Apart from the garbage management, it is also important to teach the students about environmental cleanliness.”
He said the necessary measures for improvement would be suggested after the monitoring the schools. Kunwar said along with the resource person, the monitoring team would be comprised of people’s representatives from ward-level and metropolitan. The metropolitan city has set the target of completing the monitoring within the month of Baisakh (Mid-May).
