Kathmandu, August 2 – The winner for the NayaPusta-Shailee Essay Competition jointly organized by NayaPusta program, Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists and Shailee Theatre has been announced.
According to the results published from both the organizations, Grade 11 student Rojita Acharya Chhetri from Ranipauwa, Pokhara based Global Collegiate School has won the first title. Likewise, grade 10 student Prabin Nepal from Mahesh Sanskrit Gurukulam, Devghat, Tanahun has won the second position while Pawan Bhatta studying in Padmodaya School of Dhangadhi, Kailali have become third.
The competition was organized so as to understand the perspective of the adolescents towards media literacy. The Competition was organized with the support from Free Press Unlimited, The Netherlands. The winners of the competition will receive certificates along with cash prize; NPR 15,000 for first, NPR 10,000 for second and NPR 5,000 for the third.
For this competition, 133 eligible candidates had been selected. Because of the COVID-19 crisis, the competition was organized virtually. The jury also selected the participants through the online platform. The certificates and the cash prize will both be sent through online for the safety of the adolescents.
Although internet is the most effective medium for disseminating news, it is also the source for propagandas and fake news. Focusing on this aspect, the organizers launched this essay competition.
