Rasuwa : In 2014, China opened Rasuwagadhi border point as the second international border point to conduct trade and commerce with Nepal. Earlier, Nepal and China had used Tatopani border point as the main trading point for more than seven years. Unfortunately, the border point remained closed for four years after the devastating earthquake of 2015 severely damaged the Kodari Highway.
It has already been five years since the Rasuwagdhi border point officially came into operation. China has already constructed a high-tech immigration office on the Chinese side and also completed the construction of wider roads. But the progress is disappointing on the Nepali side. Loaded trucks coming from China have been plying along the same dusty and narrow roads.
Moreover, Pasang Lhamu Highway that connects Kathmandu and China has come into operation for a long time. But it is very difficult to travel through the Pasang Lhamu Highway during the rainy season due to landslides and snowfall.
Hence, Betrawati-Mailung-Syabrubesi road was opened along the bank of Trishuli River as an alternative road to avoid landslides and serpentine roads of Pasang Lhamu Highway. A new road, which is 25 kilometers shorter than Betrawati-Dhunche-Sybrubesi, was opened last year to connect Kathmandu with Chinese border.
Currently, Vehicles laden with goods have been plying the same road which was built by breaking the boulders and removing the landslides. Now, all kinds of vehicles can easily pass through the roads. But it is difficult for the vehicles to ply the roads during the rainy season.
Hakahaki journalists Shalik Bhatta and Amish Regmi had captured pictures and videos while travelling the same road last week.
