No mountaineer had taken permission to climb Mt Everest in autumn season in the last two years, Rameshwar Niraula, a junior officer at the Department of Tourism, said. According to him, ten climbers, including nine of a group and another alpinist, have taken permission for climbing Mt Everest in this autumn season after a gap of three years.
Niraula said that as of Monday, 264 mountaineers of 27 groups have taken permission to climb Mt Manaslu. Mt Manaslu is the eighth highest peak in the world and seventh tallest in Nepal. It is 8,156 metres high. Similarly, 13 climbers of two groups have taken permission to climb the 8,516-metre-tall Mt Lhotse and eight persons of a single group have taken permission to climb the 7,861-metre-tall Mt Nuptse in this autumn season.
Likewise, 30 climbers of two groups have taken permission to ascend the 8,267-metre-high Mt Dhawalagiri. So far, 518 mountaineers of 68 groups have taken permission to climb various mountain peaks in the country. Among them, 114 are women and 404 are men, Niraula said. RSS
