KATHMANDU : Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists held its 34th General Assembly meeting on Friday.
The NEFEJ has been working in the area of sustainable development, forest and environmental conservation and minimizing climate change. Radio Sagarmath, Hakahaki online, video magazine Aankhijhyal, video program Nayapusta, among other programs are run under NEFEJ.
Unveiling the annual report at the assembly, General Secretary Nimesh Regmi spoke about the work and the efforts undertaken by the forum in the environmental and development sector. He said the presence of NEFEJ has increased in the national and local level recently. He noted that the NEFEJ has raised the issues in various forums about the flaws in Environmental Conservation Bill and the weaknesses in climate change policies. He added that the forum has been minutely studying the faults in Nijgadh Airport, and Forest Bill.
He said there are plans to conduct programs to reduce environmental impact in bigger projects such as Chure destruction, garbage management, urban development, and disaster management.
The meeting unanimously endorsed the report tabled by the general secretary.
At the assembly, NEFEJ Treasurer Sabin Sharma presented the financial report which was also endorsed unanimously. Likewise, chair of the Account Committee Gopal Tiwari presented the report covering the activities conducted by NEFEJ.
In the same manner, Mukesh Pokharel was honoured with the ‘Environment Journalist Award’ that is being provided by the NEFEJ for the past three decades. He was given away the award at the 34th general assembly function.
Likewise, Mohan KC was awarded as the best employee of the year. The NEFEJ has bestowed an honorary membership on Dr Tirtha Bahadur Shrestha.
