’90 percent of human energy requirements are found in nature’(with video)

Kathmandu – A scientist has said that 90 percent of the nutritious elements necessary for human beings can be found in nature.

Speaking in a program titled ‘Green Source and Basis for Prosperity’ organised by Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (Nefej) and Samrakchhyan Sarokar Samuha, Biotechnology scientist and manager Narayan Ghimire said the protein and other essential nutrients necessary for human are available in nature.

He said that nature is the main source of energy for humans because 90 percent of the energy requirements for human are met from oxygen.

“Humans get 90 percent of energy from oxygen,” he said. “As the main source of oxygen is nature, therefore the use of natural elements should be increased.”

He went on to say that nature is the source of all the foods being consumed in the world today. “All the nutrients available in the world can be found here in Nepal if they are properly refined,” he said.

He said that Nepal can sharply reduce the import of food items from other countries if he country could utilized the over 7000 types of medicinal plants and biological substance available here.

He claimed that the humans won’t need animals and birds for meat in the next 20 years. He said the people can get the required protein from medicinal plants and other substance.

Saying that protein-rich food can be made from natural sources as an alternative to meat, Ghimire said, “We are currently making fake meat that appears like the meat but made up of natural substance. The amount of protein found in the food is no less that in meat.”

He said that it would be better to eat and drink the food that are free from chemicals  as it is possible to produce beverages like Coca-Cola, Fanta that are consumed every day with the natural substances.
