Though the project had entered into the implementation phase some nine years ago, no significant progress has been achieved. To date, the progress report includes the acquisition of land and fencing of the project site. Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Nanda Lal Baishya is worried about a sluggish progress.
Over 90 biga of land has been acquired at Jayaspura of Nepalgunj metropolis-16 for the project, according to him. As per the agreement, Nepal is obliged to provide a land for the check post construction and the Indian side is responsible for carrying out physical construction works. So far, only a few structures have been built.
Federal Projects Unit Office, Nepalgunj Engineer Hom Nath Bhusal said nothing could be done except to wait and see the response from Indian side. According to a local business community, if the project is realised, it would cause a positive and direct impact on nation’s economy. RSS
