At a programme organized by the Prakash Dahal Memorial Foundation on the occasion of 38th birthday of late Prakash Dahal here today, the Foundation feted Everest climber as well as Liaison Officer Gyanendra Kumar Shrestha with ‘Prakash Dahal Sagarmatha Samman-2076’.
Similarly, Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ honoured mountaineer Tshiring Tandu Sherpa, Maya Sherpa, icefall doctor Dr Ang Sarki Sherpa and South Korean mountaineer and social worker Um Hong Gill. Um Hong has been carrying out philanthropic works in Nepal for the past 34 years.
On the occasion cancer-patients Dharma Bahadur Oli, a former people’s liberation army’s cadre and 13-year-old Pallavi Shrestha were provided monitory support worth Rs 100,000 each for their treatment. NCP Chairman Dahal as well as the participants of the programme shed light on Prakash’s contribution in politics, mountain tourism and social sector. Prakash Dahal, NCP Chairman Prachanda’s only son, died on November 19, 2017.
He died at the age of 36 due to a sudden cardiac arrest. He had climbed the highest mountain in the world-Mt Everest-also locally known as Sagarmatha in 2012. NCP Chair Dahal said that Prakash had lived through all sort of experiences in his young age and underscored the need to learn and feel inspired from positive contributions of his son. Stating that Prakash’s contribution in organisation be it government or political party or family was invaluable, Dahal movingly confessed, “Prakash’s support to me during my Prime Ministership was very memorable.”
Similarly, NCP senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal compared Prakash with one of those rare persons who could perform wonderful and special works. He reminisced Prakash’s Everest feat which, according to him, is unimaginable task for the ordinary person and hailed him for accomplishing such an uphill challenge. Nepal, also former Prime Minister, said, “In the absence of Prakash Dahal, I feel like Prachanda has lost a significant aide.” According to him, Prakash was equally apt in technology besides operating weapons. Likewise, Nepali Congress leader Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat said that Prakash was a skilled manager.
He recalled how he got to work closely with Prakash while he was Minister for Foreign Affairs while Prakash’s father was Prime Minister. The programme was organized under the chair of Prakash’s spouse Beena Magar, also sitting Minister for Drinking Water. Minister Magar is also an Everest summitter. Rastriya Janata Party leader Mahendra Raya Yadav, Minister for Urban Development Mohamed Istiyak Rai among others hailed Prakash as a source of inspiration for the Nepali youth. RSS
